From forest produce to the market shelf: how the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED support tribal gatherers and artisans in processing, branding and selling what they produce.

Status as stated in the Minister's statement laid in Parliament on 13 August 2026. No later figure had been published as of 19 September 2026.
PMJVM: 4,172 Kendras and 12.48 lakh beneficiaries in 28 States/UTs. A typical Kendra has 15 self-help groups of 20 members each.
PM-JANMAN: 540 Kendras and 0.46 lakh beneficiaries, set up for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. A typical Kendra has 5 self-help groups of 10 members each.
According to the Minister of State's reply of 5 August 2026, operational Kendras had sold value-added products worth about ₹174 crore through local markets, fairs and the Bharat Tribes Fest.

02 — Forest produce
Fact
Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM), implemented through TRIFED, the Ministry notifies a Minimum Support Price for Minor Forest Produce. It also gives States revolving funds to buy produce from gatherers at that price, so that gatherers receive a fair price for what they collect.
The Ministry has stated that PMJVM ran from 2021–22 to 2025–26.

TRIFED (the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) buys products from tribal artisans and sells them through 115 Tribes India outlets, exhibitions and e-commerce. The figures are in ₹ lakh, as stated in Parliament on 30 July 2026.

A premium brand for tribal weaves, embroideries and crafts, launched by the Minister on 18 March 2026. Premium packaging was developed by the National Institute of Design, Haryana. A dedicated RISA store opened in New Delhi in June 2026.

At its 25th Foundation Day, the Minister stated that it had extended over 16.80 lakh loans, with disbursements exceeding ₹4,400 crore.

Source-based analysis
A Kendra that is sanctioned is not yet an income. The gap between 4,712 sanctioned and 3,406 operational Kendras, and TRIFED's stock of old inventory, show that what happens after sanction matters. The official data shows sanctions, operations and sales, and it points to market linkage and working capital as the hard parts. The Ministry states that working capital is not provided to Kendras under these schemes.
